Renewing the world, one building at a time.
Construction and demolition waste is a growing problem to the environment according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
There are four main categories of waste:
Green House Gas
Energy
Economics
Land Use
So how does building recycling and reuse help this situation?
Trees are Saved
Landfill Space not Used
Structure/Materials Not Burned
How does this help the local economy?
Vacant Lots are Filled (creating homes AND adding to community resources via property taxes)
Electricity, water, sewer, and garbage revenues are created
Job opportunities for excavators, concrete contractors, roofers, electricians, plumbers, carpenters, etc.
Consider these statistics:
- In Iowa City, 98 homes were moved within 2 years, saving FEMA $450k, stimulating borrowing of $4.8M in home mortgages, and assisting 400 people move into newly renovated homes.
- In North Carolina, 8 historical homes were moved allowing the local growth project to go on, but preserving the historical buildings and saving 800,000 tons of debris from landfills.
The choice to consider relocation first is obvious! Please feel free to call us with any further questions on the subject. We're happy to help you weigh the decisions of your projects, no matter their scale.
